Applaud Yourself!
How often do you celebrate your small wins and successes and applaud yourself?
Do you acknowledge the progress you’re making toward your goals on a daily basis? Do you even notice you’re making progress toward your goals?
I’ll bet you don’t!
I’m willing to bet that you just focus on what hasn’t happened yet or what you still have to get done that isn’t done or that you haven’t reached your goal yet.
How do I know this? From my own personal experience and from working with athletes who I see doing the same thing!
We often don’t celebrate and acknowledge the small steps and daily progress we make toward our goals.
It’s a shame because when we do reach the goal, we often barely acknowledge that achievement because we’re already onto the next new goal we’ve set.
Also, when we don’t acknowledge our small wins and progress we’re failing to acknowledge the hard work that our conscious and subconscious minds are doing for us.
We imprint the wrong message on our subconscious mind by focusing on what we haven’t accomplished and feeling negative about that.
Here’s what you can do to change this – start a Success Journal.
When I first started my business in 2003 working with athletes, I didn’t know one athlete…talk about starting from scratch!
When I would feel discouraged about the progress I was making (or what I considered to be the lack of progress), I realized that doubt was interfering with the vision I was holding, so I started my Success Journal.
Every day I wrote two or three things I had done towards my goal. I wrote down even the smallest things.
If I made a phone call and reached out to someone, I wrote it down.
If someone expressed an interest in my work, I wrote it down.
I didn’t focus on the outcome of the progress, I just noted the fact I was making progress.
Then, on the days I was feeling really discouraged and my “monkey mind” was telling me how I wasn’t making any progress and I wasn’t getting anywhere, I’d pull out my Success Journal and look at the evidence of what was and the progress I was making.
I would instantly feel better and it helped me to stay on track and focused on my goals.
Start your Success Journal today!
Buy a special notebook and label it “Success Journal.”
Then, every single day, write down the date and at least two or three small steps you took or events that happened that put you closer to your goal.
As you write them down, feel proud of your progress, celebrate and acknowledge your progress.
No matter how small the step you took, write it down.
If you improved one thing in your practice today, write it down.
If you had good mental focus for even one minute more than you normally have, write it down.
Learn to acknowledge every bit of progress you make.
Then, when you’re having a bad day, take out your Success Journal, read through it and applaud yourself.
You will see the facts in front of you and you will see you are making steady progress toward your goal.
Applaud yourself and your small successes!
